Add New Security Capabilities With Dog Teams
Dogs have been used in warfare and security for as long as man has had a need to protect his interests from others who seek to do harm. And for good reason: Dogs are extremely trainable and adaptable to a wide variety of roles and capabilities which make them invaluable assets in the world of security. For example, dogs can be trained to detect threats such as explosives and drugs, they can be trained to track people by scent alone and they can be used as a potent deterrent when combined with their human handler.
Perimeter patrol dogs can be used to good effect in both acting as a deterrent to would-be trespassers and providing an extremely potent capability against actual trespassers. Dog teams are enough to make any would-be trespasser have second thoughts regarding his actions. The presence of dog security alone has a great psychological impact on the potential criminal, deterring the vast majority of those with a criminal mindset. In this way security dogs can effectively protect a property without their offensive capability ever being used.
Of course dog teams are not limited to simply being a deterrent which relies on presence alone. Security dogs also have a highly effective offensive capability which can quickly and efficiently resolve any breach of security. Protection dogs have a great turn of speed, easily out-pacing any human including both the adversary and the handler. This gives security teams a unique capability to react to situations rapidly and at great speed which no human could ever provide. Furthermore, security dogs tend to be trained to attach themselves to the assailant and await their handler or even pin down the assailant to the floor. Protection dogs have both a large amount of weight and a large amount of strength at their disposal which renders them extremely dangerous adversaries.
Security dogs can either be used as perimeter patrol dogs as previously mentioned or they can be used in the capacity of a mobile patrol with dogs. A dog mobile patrol can be centrally located, ready to react to any incident or any breach of the perimeter. The advantage of a mobile patrol with dogs over perimeter patrol dogs is that the dogs can always be dispatched to problem areas rapidly rather than being anywhere on the perimeter of the premises at any given time. This adds a rapid response element to the already potent capabilities offered by security dogs.
Dog teams can also be used in a wide range of applications other than providing perimeter patrol dogs. Such teams can also be used at special events such as concerts, crowded nightclubs and large outdoor events to provide a conspicuous security presence. Whatever the application of security dogs and dog teams, they bring an entirely new dimension to a security deterrent and add an extremely effective offensive capability. Security dogs are well worth considering for all security applications where a credible threat exists to a person or to property.
